BECOME A LICENSED REAL ESTATE BROKER
AND ADVANCE YOUR PROFESSIONAL CAREER
WHO IS A REAL ESTATE BROKER AND HOW IS A
BROKER
DIFFERENT FROM A REAL ESTATE SALESPERSON
To become a licensed Real Estate Broker, you must
have worked full
time for a minimum of two years as a Salesperson, three or more years
of equivalent experience in the real estate business, or a combination
of both, in addition to the broker’s course of study, before you
can
obtain your broker's license. If you are new to this industry without
prior
related experience, the Salesperson course should, instead, be your
first course of study.
REAL ESTATE BROKER LICENSING COURSE
This course will prepare you for the New York Department
of State Real Estate Broker's Exam required to obtain your license.
The Broker Course may be taken before all the required experience has
been fulfilled.
WILL YOU NEED TO TAKE A 30 HOUR REMEDIAL COURSE, TOO
If you received your Salesperson license from the New York Department of State prior to July 1, 2008, you only took a 45 hour licensing course. As of July 1, 2008, Salesperson licensing courses have increased to 75 hours. If you want to apply for a Broker's license you need to take those additional 30 hours of the Salesperson's course as well as the 45 hours Broker's course. This course is comprised of sessions 13 through 20 of the Salesperson's licensing course to give you the additional 30 hours.
